Substitute Teaching

Stark County Schools Council Substitute Consortium maintains a licensed Substitute Teacher list for the following school districts:  Alliance City, Brown Local, Canton Local, Carrollton Exempted Village, Dalton Local, Fairless Local, Jackson Local, Lake Local, Louisville City, Marlington Local, Massillon City, Minerva Local, North Canton City, Northwest Local, Osnaburg Local, Perry Local, Plain Local, R.G. Drage Career Technical Ctr, Sandy Valley Local, Strasburg-Franklin Local, Tuslaw Local, Stark County ESC - Preschool (county-wide), Stark County ESC - Special Education (county-wide), Canton City and Green Local-Summit County will require additional paperwork.


To be eligible to substitute teach in any or all of the school districts listed above, you will need to complete an ONLINE APPLICATION, upload required documents, and provide a paper copy of your background check (both BCI and FBI).  Applicants will not be placed on the Stark County ESC Substitute Teacher List until all required documents have been submitted for processing and approval.

The Ohio Department of Education has been granted the authority under Senate Bill (SB) 1 of the 134th General Assembly to issue a one-time, non-renewable 1 year Temporary Non-Bachelor's Substitute Teaching License for the 2021-22 school year to applicants who do not hold a post-secondary degree but meet the employing school district's set of educational requirements.
  • The Stark County ESC will NOT be employing substitute teachers without a bachelor's degree.  
  • A non-bachelor's substitute teaching license is available at the request of the employing school district.
